Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Monday launched a broadside at the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), asserting that Sirajul Haq-led party will not take the country out of the quagmire.
Addressing a press conference, Wahab schooled JI leader Hafizur Naeemur, saying, “You [Hafiz Naeem] are the emir of JI’s Karachi. Do not try to take over as the country’s emir. Kindly move ahead with a positive mindset”.
Hafiz Naeem is the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, don’t try to be the Ameer of all Pakistan, let us serve the city, don’t be hypocritical, the problem of this city is not Murtaza Wahab or Hafiz Naeem, but the maintenance of roads, parks, playgrounds, water supply, sewage system.
“Hafiz Naeem wants to see the upholding of the politics of the allegations in the city,” he continued. Wahab made it clear that everyone had been requested to contribute for the sake of Karachi’s development.
“If I had wanted to, I would not have invited Hafiz Naeem to speak in the House, we tried to establish a good tradition, but these people spoiled the environment. However, there can be no politics of bullying anymore, the whole of Karachi has seen that one person want destruction of the whole city because of his ego. How long will pride, arrogance and selfishness last?
“I announce today that every member of the city council is equal to me and the deputy mayor, the same development fund that will be given to the chairman of People’s Party and Muslim League (N) will be given to the elected representatives of Jamaat-e-Islami,” he said.
“Despite the attitude of the opposition, we will continue to do our work in the city council, our doors are open for everyone, Insha Allah we will move forward with positive thinking, I consider every member of Jamaat-e-Islami as respectable and we have this desire to work together, just as everyone worked together on Eid-ul-Azha and the best results came out, in the same way we want to do all the work in the city in the future,” he remarked.
Murtaza Wahab has said that he wanted to conduct the proceedings of the first meeting of the city council with mutual understanding so that the problems of Karachi can be solved, but the opposition has proved that on one side is the development, prosperity and political maturity of Karachi and on the other side is Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rahman.
On this occasion, Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, Secretary General of PPP South District Karamullah Waqasi and other elected representatives and officers were also present.
Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that in view of what happened in the first meeting of the City Council today, this press conference has been called, we tried as much as possible to serve the city with our work and positive thinking.
Earlier, the purpose of calling a meeting of all parliamentary leaders was to make a strategy for the development and improvement of the city together with them, this was done for the first time in the history of KMC because we want to take everyone together.
