KP Assembly panel directs timely compensation for disaster victims

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s Standing Committee on Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement on Wednesday directed the provincial authorities to ensure the timely disbursement of compensation and relief to people affected by natural disasters and emergencies, while calling for the immediate disposal of all pending compensation cases.
Chairing a meeting of the Assembly’s Standing Committee on Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement, committee chairman and former provincial minister Anwar Zeb Khan instructed the relevant authorities to expedite the processing of pending claims and ensure that disaster-hit families receive financial assistance without delay.
The meeting was attended by MPAs Dr Hameedur Rehman, Madina Gul Afridi, Jamila Paracha, Farzana Shireen, Ashbar Jan Jadun, Aimal Khalil Khan, Ajmal Khan and Mian Sharafat Ali Khan, besides the secretary of the Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement Department, the director general of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), and other senior officials.
The committee reviewed the department’s performance and relief mechanisms in the districts of Bannu, Kohat, Buner, Abbottabad, Malakand, Khyber and Bajaur.
Officials briefed the committee on the monsoon contingency plan, the digital compensation system, the functioning of claim assessment committees, various compensation packages, inter-agency coordination and other disaster management measures.
Mr Khan stressed that all pending compensation cases should be resolved on a priority basis so that affected individuals and families receive relief and financial support in a timely manner.
He also directed officials to present a comprehensive report at the committee’s next meeting detailing the impact of the recent floods, the disbursement of relief funds and compensation, and other measures taken by the department in response to the calamities.
