The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Higher Education Meena Khan Afridi on Wednesday said that special attention was being given to women’s education for the promotion of education, adding the common perception was that the literacy rate among women KP was low, but recent policies have significantly increased this ratio.
“ Since 2013, women’s participation in higher education has reached a great extent, and we are hopeful that by the end of this government’s tenure, the number of female students will surpass that of male students. In recent college enrollments, female enrollment has impressively reached 70-75%, which is an encouraging sign” the KP higher education minister expressed these views on the occasion of the opening ceremony of sports gala held at Women University Swabi.
The opening ceremony was also attended by former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Provincial Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Syed Fakhr Jehan, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Transport Haji Rangiz Khan, and Vice Chancellor of Women University Swabi, Mian Syed Khan.
Mr Meena Khan said that the KP government has announced free education for girls and orphans at the intermediate level.
He issued directives to the university administration to expedite preparations for the selection board. He further emphasized that all recruitments will be made purely on merit, ensuring transparency and raising educational standards.
Asad Qaiser, also addressed the event, highlighting the potential of the youth and said that Pakistan’s greatest strength lies in its young population.
“ If we prepare our youth positively, provide them with opportunities, and channel their talents in the right direction, Pakistan can develop rapidly. Success comes from Allah, but hard work and effort are in our hands. We must move forward with sincerity and dedication to put our country on the path of progress” he said.
Fakhar Jahan, emphasized the importance of sports and said that the government is making great efforts to promote women’s sports, adding that healthy activities are essential for the young generation, as sports benefit not only physical health but also mental development.
He maintained that the provincial government will provide all possible facilities to promote women’s sports so that female students can showcase their talents.
Mian Syed Khan, said in his speech that the university is making every effort to empower women. “ Our goal is to provide quality education along with extracurricular opportunities so that female students can prove their capabilities in every field,” he added.
Haji Rangez Khan, praised Women University Swabi as an excellent educational initiative, and said that the institution’s development will further promote higher education among women in the region, bringing positive impacts across the province.
At the end of the event, prizes were distributed among students who performed exceptionally well. Students who secured top positions were awarded cash prizes and shields, while the university administration and attendees expressed their happiness over the successful organization of this event.
