Syed Fakhar Jihan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, inaugurated the cricket talent hunt trials under the Peshawar Zalmi Talent Hunt Program at Arbab Niaz Stadium on Wednesday.
The event, aimed at discovering promising young cricket players, was attended by several notable figures, including Matiullah, Secretary of Sports and Youth Affairs, Abdul Nasir Khan, Director of Sports, Mohammad Akram, Director of Cricket for Peshawar Zalmi, and former cricketers Umar Gul, Mohammad Yousuf, Kamran Akmal, and Ihsan Ali.
The trials, organized by Peshawar Zalmi, have attracted more than 7,000 young participants eager to showcase their cricketing abilities. The initiative is part of an ongoing effort to identify and nurture new talent in the province.
In his address to the media during the inauguration, Minister Syed Fakhar Jihan praised Peshawar Zalmi for their excellent arrangements and efforts in organizing the event. He described the program as a significant step in unearthing talented players from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
When asked about the future of Arbab Niaz Stadium, the Minister confirmed that the stadium will soon host the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He stressed that the stadium is a key venue for international sports in the province and highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure its completion so it can meet international standards and host global cricket events.
Minister Jihan also emphasized the provincial government’s commitment to promoting all forms of sports in KP.
He assured that the government is providing full support to sports events and players, aiming to further develop the sports sector in the province.
The talent hunt program marks a significant milestone in the development of cricket in the region, with the hope of bringing new talent into the national spotlight.
