PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Department has sent a letter to the provincial government, seeking services of the Police Services of Pakistan (PSP) officers against high-rank posts as the force was facing difficulties in combating terrorism for shortage of officers.
The Police Department requested the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home and Tribal Affairs Department to seek the services of Police Services of Pakistan (PSP) officers from federal government as the performance of police force was adversely affecting the war on terror for shortage of police officers.
Giving details about the vacant high posts in the Police Department, it said presently two additional inspector general (AIGs) were appointed in the province against the five sanctioned posts. And three posts were lying vacant.
Similarly, it said, only eight deputy inspector generals’ (DIGs) were appointed in the province against 18 sanctioned posts. Furthermore, it said, only 17 Superintendent of Police (SPs) were performing duties while the sanctioned posts were 35 in the province.
The Police Department pointed out in the letter that the shortage of 18 SPs against the sanctioned posts had created difficulties for the department, which is waging the war on terrorism.
The Police Department has also suggested in the letter that the special police force could effectively counter militants if the government improved skills and capabilities of the operational units of the force in the province.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Department raised the issue of shortage of police officers with the federal government through the Home and Tribal Affairs Department several times but to no avail.
