LAHORE
Lahore witnessed the largest marathon race in Pakistan’s history, with children, adults and persons with disabilities taking part in various events.
The CM Punjab National Marathon & Cycling Race 2026 commenced at 6am from Liberty Chowk. Provincial Sports Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar inaugurated the race by cycling at the start. More than 11,000 athletes and citizens from across the country participated.
A 21-kilometre marathon and a 21-kilometre cycling race were organised for men. For women, a five-kilometre marathon and a five-kilometre cycling race were arranged. Families took part in a two-kilometre fun race, while a one-kilometre wheelchair race was reserved for persons with disabilities.
In the 21-kilometre men’s cycling race, Ali Ilyas of Karachi secured first position, followed by Aqib Shah of Lahore in second place, while Sanaullah from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa finished third.
In the five-kilometre women’s cycling race, all top three positions were claimed by participants from Karachi. Zainab secured first place, Anisa came second, and Rabi finished third. Strict security arrangements were put in place by the administration.
A special traffic plan was devised to maintain the flow of traffic, and citizens were advised to use alternate routes.
