Lahore High Court (LHC) has decided to constitute full bench to probe into recent incidents in educational institutions.
The petition seeking probe into harassment incidents in educational institutions came up for hearing before Chief Justice (CJ) LHC Aalia Neelum Friday.
IG Punjab and other officers appeared on the order of court.
The CJ LHC inquired “ IG Sahb as to why step was not taken to stop videos from going viral. Have you contacted any authority to stop videos from going viral.
IG Punjab replied We contacted PTA.
The CJ LHC while moving to IG Punjab remarked today is October 18 and videos went viral on October 13 and 14. You wake up when fire flares up and all is reduced to ashes.
The court inquired from IG Punjab you contacted the relevant authorities too late.
IG Punjab replied the video went viral from more than 700 accounts. Police have only one institution to check cyber crime.
The CJ LHC remarked IG Sahb it is your failure. You allowed the children to come on road. You should also give account of two days that you did what on October 14 and 15. Videos are still lying on X and Tiktok. You did nothing for two days. You kept on waiting.
The CJ LHC remarked you did nothing in two days after filing documents and started your work from October 16. If there is intent then all works are done.
IG Punjab took the plea it is not so easy to prevent data from being uploaded and nor we have authority in this regard. If we will stop it from one account it is reposted from other account.
The CJ LHC inquired had any harm been caused to the girls who came on roads then who was responsible.
Advocate General Punjab said it was said through instagram on October 12 that a girl was assaulted in a private college.
SSP reached the respective campus on the same day and started investigations. Students of first year have their own whatsapp groups and no one has control upon them. Instagram post was shared in every group but no one knew what has happened.
IG Police further said police identified more than 700 accounts. There is no power to stop uploading in England too.
IG Punjab said we identified some accounts which have not been deleted so far.
Advocate General Punjab told the court every student was saying incident had happened but no one had evidence. The students from other campus reached this campus. When vandalism took place then Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Maryam Nawaz constituted a special committee. No victim of assault came into open till Monday.
Advocate General told the court whosoever we arrest he becomes hero next day. We could not even determine on Sunday that what is going to happen on Sunday.
The CJ LHC Aalia Neelum remarked we don’t say it happened in an organized way. But when it happened the opportunists took enormous advantage of it.
The LHC decided to constitute full bench with reference to recent incidents and uploading fake news on social media.
CJ LHC Aliya Neelum said full bench will hear these cases on Tuesday.
The court ordered DG FIA to investigate the matter with reference to the recent incidents.
The court summoned DG FIA to appear in person on next hearing.
