LHC stops imposing fixed charges in electricity bills

Lahore High Court (LHC) has stopped levying fixed charges on electricity bills.
The court issued stay order against charging fixed charges on electricity bills.
The petition filed by 9 companies including Flying paper mills came up for hearing before Justice Muhammad Raza Shah Qureshi against levying fixed charges by LESCO in electricity bills.
Federal government, LESCO and others have been made respondents in the petition.
Khawaja Wasim Abbas advocate appeared on behalf of the petitioners in the court.
The counsel for petitioner took the plea that LESCO has imposed fixed charges in electricity bills. No approval has been obtained by LESCO for charging fixed charges. Obtaining approval from cabinet and NEPRA for imposing fixed charges is imperative.
It was further said in the petition that LESCO has sent bill of Rs 32 lac while no electricity was used. Bill of Rs 57 lac was sent last month while electricity bill of Rs 1 crore 56 lac has been sent this month.
The court is requested to issue order to LESCO for abolishing fixed charges.
