A Provincial Lobbying Delegation from the Pakistan Council of World Religions-Faith Friends (PCWR-FF) held a pivotal meeting regarding the enforcement of the two percent minority quota in educational institutions.
The meeting, organized by PCWR-FF, took place at a local hotel and was attended by Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peshawar, Prof Dr Naeem Qazi, who led discussions on behalf of the university.
Representing the University of Peshawar were Prof Shakeel Ahmad, Head of the Social Work Department, and Dr Yasir Shahzad, Director of Admissions.
The PCWR-FF delegation included Chairman Qari Roohullah Madani, Hafiz Abdul Ghafoor, Haroon Surb Diyal, Joseph John, Maqsood Ahmad Salafi, Adeeba Adeel, and Saima Mehboob.
The meeting focused on the 2pc minority quota designated for non-Muslim students at the University of Peshawar.
Dr Yasir Shahzad informed the delegation that while 35 seats were allocated for minority students, only 13 were filled this year, leaving 22 seats vacant due to insufficient applications.
VC Dr Qazi reaffirmed the university’s dedication to encouraging non-Muslim students to pursue higher education, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to supporting minority students in shaping their futures.
The delegation and university officials stressed the need to raise awareness among minority communities in KP regarding the availability of the 2pc quota.
Religious leaders from minority communities were urged to actively promote this opportunity to ensure more students benefit from these reserved seats.
PCWR-FF was commended for its consistent efforts to raise awareness about the minority quota, which has contributed to an increase in minority admissions this year compared to previous years.
