The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has stepped up measures to ensure the uninterrupted supply of flour at official rates and stabilise prices across the province, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Food Dr Mohammad Israr Khan said on Tuesday.
He said wheat was being supplied to functional flour mills to ensure adequate availability of flour and prevent price fluctuations, adding that no negligence would be tolerated in the provision of flour to consumers at the notified rates.
Dr Israr said 20kg bags of flour were being sold to the public for Rs2,520 through registered and designated dealers across the province.
According to figures released by the Food Department, 21,319 metric tonnes of wheat had so far been supplied from government warehouses to functional flour mills, of which 19,319 tonnes had been milled.
The department said flour was currently being supplied at official rates through 1,573 designated dealers in all districts of the province. So far, 676,165 bags of 20kg flour had been distributed among consumers.
The special assistant said the continued supply of wheat was aimed at ensuring uninterrupted availability of subsidised flour to the people.
He directed the relevant authorities to closely monitor the distribution process and ensure prompt action on complaints regarding the supply and sale of flour at official rates.
Dr Israr also urged consumers to monitor the quality of the government-supplied flour and immediately report cases of substandard flour or overcharging to the Food Department.
