Pakistan on Tuesday beat Bangladesh by eight wickets on the final day of first of two test match series to lead the series 1-0.
Captain Babar Azam and Azhar Ali saw men in green go pass hosts Bangladesh at Zahoor Ahmad Chowdhury stadium of Chittagong in the first session of the final day of test match.
Bangladesh had set a target of 202 runs for Pakistan on day 4, as the hosts were bowled out of 157 in their second innings, posting a potential lead of 201 runs.
Pakistan were 109-0 at the start of day 5, thanks to another brilliant opening stand by openers Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique. Abid Ali, after scoring 133 ton in first innings, scored another 91 in second innings, and was named man of the match later.
On day 5, Bangladesh’s spin magician Taijul Islam trapped Abid Ali lbw on 91 runs while Abdullah Shafique was dismissed the same way by Mehidy Hasan on 73.
However, stable partnership between Azhar Ali, who scored 24 and skipper Babar Azam, who made 13, ensured Pakistan’s win.
Pakistan’s pace sensations Shaheen Shah Afridi and Hassan Ali were magnificent and picked 5 wickets each in Bangladesh’s each innings.
Bangladesh were bowled out for 330 in their first innings. Liton Das was magnificent and scored century ton against Pakistan while seasoned campaigner Mushfiqur Raheem scored 91. For Pakistan, Hassan Ali was pick-of-the-lot who grabbed figures of 5-51 from 20.4 overs.
In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for just 286, owing to Bangladesh’s spinner Taijul Islam magical spell, who sent seven Pakistani batsmen packing back to pavilion.
He picked up 7-116, while Pakistan, despite getting brilliant opening foundation by openers Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique, staggered at the back end of innings and were bowled out for 289, leaving behind deficit of 41 runs.
However, Pakistan came back stronger in the second innings and Bangladesh could manage to score only 157. Shaheen Shah Afridi picked 5-32 in Bangladesh’s second innings.
Pakistan were confident enough throughout their second innings and chased down 202 runs on day five with eight wickets in hand.
