The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a rain alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, forecasting thunderstorms and rain in upper and central districts from the night of August 12 to August 15.
According to the PDMA advisory, districts likely to receive rainfall include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra and Abbottabad. Rain is also expected in Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Khyber, Mohmand and Kurram.
The authority warned of possible landslides in vulnerable mountainous areas and urban flooding in low-lying areas of Mardan and Swabi due to the expected downpour.
District administrations have been directed to take precautionary measures in advance.
The PDMA has instructed officials to maintain continuous monitoring of rivers, streams and seasonal nullahs, and to keep roads and drainage systems clear.
The authority urged citizens to stay in safe places during rain and thunderstorms. Tourists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the wet spell.
The PDMA further cautioned the public to maintain a safe distance from rivers, streams and drainage channels, and to avoid hiking, trekking and camping during heavy rain. People have been asked not to walk or drive through floodwaters.
Additional safety instructions include staying away from open power lines and electrical appliances during thunderstorms, and keeping children away from rivers, streams, ditches and drainage routes.
All relevant departments have been directed to maintain 24-hour monitoring of the situation.
