ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended Pakistan Information Commission (PIC) orders on disclosure of tax payers data maintaining financial confidentiality takes precedence over right to information. FBR had challenged orders of PIC for providing data of tax payers. Upon it Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro of IHC had issued stay order on FBR PIC orders maintaining tax record can not be disclosed under right to information act. PIC had issued orders to FBR on December 03, 2025 and January 08, 2026. During the hearing of the case the counsel for FBR took the plea PIC has transgressed its powers of jurisdiction. There is complete legal ban on revealing tax payers information. Clause 216 of Income Tax ordinance is supreme over all other laws. Disclosing the identity of tax payers too is violation of law.
