PESHAWAR
In order to commemorate World Pneumonia Day to raise awareness about the symptoms, causes and treatment of deadly pneumonia, a session and walk was organized in Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar, says a press release.
The walk and session was attended by expert doctors of peds and students associated with the medical profession.
Professor Dr Aqeel Khattak on this occasion said that pneumonia kills more than 100 children every hour, adding that the disease is the leading cause of death among children under the age of five years as most parents ignore it due to lack of knowledge.
Dr Aqeel while sharing statistics of the World Health Organization (WHO) maintained that pneumonia every year kills more children than any other infectious disease, claiming the lives of over 7 million children under five worldwide.
He said that apart from World Pneumonia Day, it is important to inform people about the latest information about the symptoms, causes and treatment of this disease.
Talking to the participants, he said that the provincial government is providing a free vaccine for pneumonia with the aim of creating immunity in children against this deadly disease.
“Breast feeding is very useful for the first six months after birth to protect children from the virus, besides, the effects of this disease can be reduced by using proper and clean food,” he added.
