Police foiled smuggling bid, two held

The Chamkani Police on Tuesday thwarted an attempt to smuggle a huge cache of drugs from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Punjab and arrested two smugglers.
The arrested persons were identified as Qurban Ali and Altaf Rasool residents of Punjab. Police have seized 160 kg of drugs from the secret cavities of a car after stopping and searching it during an operation on motorway blockade.
SHO Chamkani Police Station Iftikhar Khan told reporters that the two smugglers were members of the two inter-provincial drug smugglers gang who busted during an operation carried out on intelligence based information.
“The accused are related to the organized inter-provincial drug smugglers network,” Mr Iftikhar added and said that a special team led by DSP Chamkani Zahid Alam Khan has been formed to arrest the entire network.
The operation was conducted after SP Rural Division Zafar Ahmed received information from reliable sources that a huge cache of drugs would be smuggled from Peshawar to Punjab.
Taking action, the SHO Chamkani arrested the smugglers during an operation.
According to police, the drugs include 99 kg of hashish and 61 kg of opium.
