Secretary General of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Mohammad Humayun Khan has ssid that PPP is a ray of hope for the people and it will always fight for their rights.
In a statement issued here on Friday, he said that July 5, 1977, is a blackest day in the political history of Pakistan. He said that it was the day when a democratically elected government was overthrown, the Constitution was suspended, the people’s right to rule was hijacked, and dictatorship seized control of the country.
Humayun Khan stated that on this day, General Zia-ul-Haq toppled the democratic government led by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and pushed Pakistan into political, social, and economic darkness.
It was not just a conspiracy against a political party, but a declaration of war against democracy, people’s power, and constitutional supremacy.
He said that the Pakistan People’s Party still observes this day as Black Day and pays tribute to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and all those workers who sacrificed their lives for the cause of democracy.
“We pledge to continue the struggle for the protection of democracy, the supremacy of the Constitution, and the people’s right to rule,” he added.
Humayun Khan said that our history is witness that every dictator has been defeated, and in the end, it was the power of the people that restored democracy.
