The Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) Dr. Umar Saif has said that Result Transmission System (RTS) was developed jointly by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and NADRA and PITB has not contributed or assisted even one percent nor associated at any stage.
An agreement was signed between NADRA and ECP in this regard, which was widely reported in the print and the electronic media on February 15, 2018, he said.
In a statement issued on Friday, he added that ECP sought suggestions from IT Boards of all the four provinces for this system and App and PTIB was represented by him who held a meeting with the Secretary ECP on February 27, 2018 who in advance informed ECP regarding possible short comings and faults, which was not noticed by ECP.
The recommendations made by the PITB to the Election Commission were said to be the following security measures before testing the mobile app: The Google application for Android platforms Safe Guard Shield and Code Obfuscation be implemented. Sign-in sessions should be set up between mobile apps and servers for secure communication. The data stored must be encrypt. All the mobile phones that are connected to the server and sending data to the IMEI should be registered so that only the registered phones can be sent to the data.
Data-saving data system should be applied so that the data remains safe due to the slowdown or temporary error due to the Internet and automatically reach the main server when connected to the internet. All mobile phones should be auto-focus camera feature so that the main Images of documents based on the server are clear and clear.
Punjab IT Board informed the Election Commission that there is a department of software engineering in Punjab IT Board, where hundreds of applications for this government are being implemented successfully.
However, the Election Commission and the NADRA did not follow the warning of PITB, which resulted in the RTS system problems. The Election Commission should give an explanation on the error of the RTS system, so that the ongoing propaganda against PTIB can be revoked.
The PITB spokesman said that in response to alleged baseless news reports on social media, print and electronic media regarding PITB’s involvement in developing ECP’s RTS and warned of serious consequences and strict legal action against those who are spreading false and misleading news on the media.
