ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has nullified the sentence of former federal minister Anwar Saifullah Khan. The court remarked more punishment cannot be awarded on any act of the past under new law. The court while declaring null and void majority decision restored Lahore High Court (LHC) decision regarding acquittal. The review petition against sentence of former minister Anwar Saifullah was approved. SC restored LHC June, 13, 2002 decision on acquittal of Anwar Saifullah. Application of NAB Ordinance-1999 to Anwar Saifullah under 1996 charges was wrong. The prosecution could not present evidence of corruption or loss to national kitty. SC remarked only administrative irregularity is not sufficient to prove criminal ill-intent. Correction of clear mistake in record during review is responsibility of court. Online
