Serious efforts underway for Dir Motorway mega project: Malik Liaqat

Advisor to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Population Welfare, Malik Liaqat Ali Khan, has stated that serious efforts are underway to complete the Chakdara to Lowari Tunnel Dir Motorway mega project through both Public-Private Partnership and CPEC avenues. He expressed these views while speaking to a delegation of Dir Welfare Organization Peshawar (DWO), which met him at Civil Secretariat in Peshawar under the leadership of President Haji Sultan Yousaf Dir Lala Ji.
During the meeting, in addition to discussing ongoing development projects in Dir Upper and Lower, detailed discussions were held on the issues faced by the Dir community residing in Peshawar.
Malik Liaqat Ali Khan said that the world standard highway from Chakdara to Lowari Tunnel will be completed under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) at an estimated cost of Rs. 60 billion, which also includes the construction of a tunnel from Laram to Rabat. Likewise, he said, efforts are also underway to include the proposed 214-kilometer motorway project to Chitral in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
He assured the delegation that no stone would be left unturned in resolving their issues and emphasized that the people of Dir are welcome to approach him anytime for both collective and individual concerns.
He further stated that revolutionary steps are being taken in the sectors of communication, infrastructure, education, health, irrigation, energy, tourism, and culture in both Dir districts. In the health sector, the District Headquarters Hospital in Timergara is being upgraded, while Timergara Medical College is being equipped with modern medical machinery to make it the leading medical institution of the region.
In the education sector, alongside the establishment of Dir University, there are plans to construct new schools and upgrade existing educational institutions. In the energy sector, more than 180 micro-hydel power stations have been installed. Moreover, with support from government resources and technical and financial assistance from the European Union, development projects focusing on road construction, clean water supply, and other basic facilities are being successfully completed at the local level.
The delegation thanked Malik Liaqat Ali Khan for listening to their concerns attentively and assuring them of timely resolution. They also appreciated the provincial government’s development policies and expressed their full support in this regard.
