The 108th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Small Industries Development Board (SIDB) was held on Tuesday at SIDB Headquarters, Peshawar, under the chairmanship of Abdul Karim Tordher, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Industries.
The meeting reviewed critical matters related to the development of industrial estates, professional operations of the Board, and sustainable industrialization. A number of key decisions were taken to promote investment, generate income, and ensure better utilization of resources.
Among the attendees were Additional Secretary Industries Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, SIDB Managing Director Abdul Hameed Khan, Deputy MDs Nauman Fayyaz and Sahibzada Zulfiqar, President Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Fazal Muqeem, Chairperson Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Peshawar Rabia Basri, as well as officials from relevant government departments and private sector board members.
The Board approved several proposals, including budget estimates, revenue generation plans, and operational improvements. Progress on decisions made in the previous board meeting was also reviewed.
A special committee was formed to develop a feasible model for the commercial and financial use of unused SIDB-owned land outside the designated industrial estates.
The Board granted conditional approval to a proposal by the SCCI for the use of a vacant SIDB building in Peshawar to promote the carpet industry, subject to regulatory compliance.
An initial draft of SIDB’s allotment policy and lease agreement received in-principle approval, with further improvements to be made in coordination with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC). The Board also approved new building by-laws for SIDB.
A draft policy for affiliating private land adjacent to SIDB industrial estates was conditionally approved, pending a legal review by a designated committee.
To support investors, the Board approved a two-year installment facility for the payment of institutional dues for those acquiring plots in the Industrial Park Peshawar.
The SIDB was also directed to collaborate with KPEZDMC to develop a workable solution for reusing marble slurry. Approval was granted to include a plug-and-play model in the proposed industrial estate in Swat.
Regarding the SIDB Commercial Center, the Board directed that the lower portion be rented out in consultation with the C&W Department to determine rental rates and follow proper advertisement procedures.
Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Karim Tordher emphasized the need for sustainability and self-reliance to help SIDB overcome financial constraints and continue contributing to industrial development across the province.
“Our goal is to create a business-friendly environment, promote investment, and open up employment opportunities, especially for the underprivileged,” he stated.
