PESHAWAR
Six people were killed and six others injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after heavy rains and flash floods since July 29 caused roofs and walls of houses to collapse, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
The deceased include two women and four children, while the injured also comprise two women and four children, the PDMA said.
The authority said that 65 houses had been damaged across the province due to heavy rains and flash floods, with 41 houses partially damaged and 24 completely destroyed.
The incidents were reported from various districts, including Abbottabad, Swat, Buner, Khyber, Lower Chitral, Lower Dir, Mansehra, Mardan, Peshawar, Shangla, Swabi, Upper Dir and Upper Kohistan.
The PDMA said its emergency operation centre was fully operational and that the authority, Rescue 1122, district administrations and other relevant departments were coordinating relief activities.
PDMA Director General has directed district administrations to speed up relief operations and provide immediate assistance to affected families.
The public has been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, refrain from visiting vulnerable tourist destinations and follow weather alerts and advisories issued by government departments.
The PDMA spokesperson said citizens could contact the authority’s free helpline at 1700 for information regarding emergencies, weather conditions and any untoward incidents.
