Speaker NA calls PTI MNAs again for verification of resignations


Speaker National Assembly (NA) Raja Pervez Ashraf has called PTI Members of National Assembly (MNAs) again for verification of their resignations.

According to sources speaker NA has sent the reply to the letter written by PTI vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi. The reference of rules regarding the verification of resignations has been mentioned in the letter.

It has been said in the context of the letter was written on May 30 for verification of the resignations submitted on April 11. Time was given from June 6 to 10 for verification. No MNA came to speaker NA during this period for verification of resignation.

Speaker NA has again called PTI MNAs for verification saying that the members who have resigned should appear in chamber for verification.

In the reply to the letter speaker NA has said the matter of resignation of any MNA is settled matter under rules and regulations-2007 of NA and parliamentary traditions. This matter has been set under the rulings of the chair and decisions of the superior courts. Reference of rule 43 has also been given in the letter. The speaker NA has to satisfy himself if the resignation is original and has been given voluntarily. The secretary NA will issue gazette notification of the acceptance of the resignations following the decision of speaker NA.

Copy of gazette notification will be sent to election commission so that the seat could be declared vacant. It is incumbent on member of NA to record date on the resignation. If the date is not mentioned on the resignation then the day on which the resignation is submitted will be considered the date for giving resignation.

It is pertinent to mention here that Shah Mehmood Qureshi had written a letter to NA speaker with reference to acceptance of resignations of PTI MNAs. He had sought time from NA speaker in connection with meeting with him.
