Regional Police Officer Fida Hussain on Tuesday said that police across Malakand division, particularly in Swat Valley, ensured comprehensive security arrangements for tourists during Eidul Fitr, while maintaining smooth traffic flow.
Talking to this correspondent at his office, the RPO said that millions of tourists visited the valley and its adjoining destinations, including Malam Jabba and Kalam, where adequate security measures and facilities had been put in place.
“Our aim is to provide basic facilities to the public and ensure their protection,” he said, adding that traffic police played a commendable role in maintaining vehicular movement during the Eid holidays.
According to the Upper Swat Development Authority (USDA), over 173,432 tourists visited the valley over four days. Officials said that a significant number of vehicles entered the region during this period, while 25 foreign tourists, including visitors from China and the Philippines, were also present.
The RPO said facilitation centres had been established for tourists alongside effective security arrangements. He added that the influx of visitors had enhanced Swat’s image globally and further strengthened its status as a leading tourist destination.
