The ‘Arrow’ magic works in Sindh local govt elections

According to unofficial results, the Pakistan Peoples Party is in lead in second phase of local government elections in 16 districts of Sindh including Karachi and Hyderabad as the ruling party is emerging as a winner in 9 districts.
As per the unofficial results of Karachi division, the PPP is in position to bring its town chairmen in Liyari Town and Sohrab Goth Town. According to sources in election commission, the results are trickling in as the commission has so far received results of 35% seats. The ECP hasn’t received results of 2,873 seats.
The ECP conducted elections on 4,412 seats in 16 districts of Sindh on Sunday and has received results of 1,539 seats so far. Sources said that it might take two more days till the commission gets all the results from 16 districts.
The election commission has released results of 95 seats in Karachi division. As per the results, the PPP is in lead in Karachi after grabbing 51 seats followed by PTI which has won 21 seats. The Jamaat-i-Islami has got 19 seats, JUI and Tehreek-e-Labbaik of Pakistan bagged one seat each. The ECP is yet to receive the results of 140 UC seats in Karachi.
In his messages on Twitter, PPP Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari thanked the people of Karachi and Hyderabad division. He wrote: “According to feedback from our polling agents, single largest party in Karachi will be PPP IA. Overwhelmed by the support of my city, my birthplace, for choosing PPP for the first time. Together we will build the Karachi we deserve.”
The PPP took nine seats out of 13 UC seats in Liyari Tow. In Sohrab Goth Town, it won 6 seats. The PTI could grab only one seat. The PTI suffered a major defeat when its candidate for the top slot of city mayor was lost at the hands of PPP’s Najmi Aalam.
Among 7 districts in Karachi, district Kamyari was the first to compile the results. According to an unofficial poll count, the PPP bagged 25 seats out of 31 UC seats in Kamyari followed by PML-N which got three seats; and two seats were grabbed by the PTI.
The Jamaat-i-Islami made a clean sweep in Liaquatabad Town and Gulberg Town where it could bring its town chairmen. However, in Chanesar Town, the competition is tough as PPP has got 4 seats while the JI and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf bagged two seats each. In Jinnah Town, the JI won 6 seats while the PTI secured 4 seats. However, the delayed results of Karachi elections gave way to the accusations of rigging. The PTI and JI accused that the results being delayed on purpose in order to “manage things”.
According to unofficial results of Hyderabad, the PTI grabbed 23 seats, PPP bagged 22 and the JI won only one seat. However, the PPP candidates have already been elected unopposed on 31 seats enabling the party to grab 53 seats in total. So far, 156 general members of the PPP have also been elected unopposed.
PPP’s Muhammad Ali Gohar won the UC 14 seat, Ali Murad remained successful in UC 150 and the PPP candidate took UC 57, Ward 3 seat in Tando Jam. As per the unofficial results, 19 chairmen of the PPP have been elected while the party has claimed to secure 100 seats. Seeing the unofficial results, it seems obvious that the PPP could bring its mayor in Hyderabad.
The elections were held in nine districts of Hyderabad division and polling was held on 2,551 seats. So far, the unofficial poll count suggests that the PPP has secured most of the seats followed by the independents and the PTI remained on number 3.
The PPP clinched victory in the second phase of the local bodies’ elections in most of the cities in interior Sindh including Dadu and Thattha. According to the unofficial results, the PPP won 12 out of 14 seats of Badin Municipal Committee. The PPP also gained success in all eight wards of Bhan Saeedabad Town Committee of Sehwan.
The PPP is successful in 34 wards of two municipal committees and four town committees of Jamshoro district, according to the unofficial results. The candidates of Jamshoro Alliance won in eight wards. The Sindh United Party won in four wards. An independent candidate won the election in one ward.
In Kotri Municipal Committee, the PPP is successful in 11 wards and Jamshoro Alliance in three wards. In Bolhari Municipal Committee, the PPP is successful in nine out of 12 wards. The Jamshoro Alliance and an independent candidate won in one ward each. In Manjhand Town Committee, the PPP is successful in both the wards.
In San Town Committee, the Sindh United Party is successful in all four wards. In Jamshoro Town Committee, the PPP is successful in six out of 10 wards while the Jamshoro Alliance is leading in the other four wards. In Bola Khan Town Committee, the PPP has won five out of six wards.
The result of one ward was delayed. In Sehwan Sharif, the PPP won in all eight wards. As per the unofficial results, the PPP contested the local bodies’ elections in all eight wards of the Saeedabad Town Committee of Sehwan Sharif.
The local government polls in phase-II in Sindh districts were held on the seats of Metropolitan Corporation, Municipal Corporation, Town Municipal Committees, District Councils, Union Councils, and Wards. = DNA
