Peshawar: The University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) formalized a significant collaboration today through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering industry-academia linkages and supporting students through targeted financial initiatives. Under the agreement, SNGPL will offer six merit-based scholarships to students enrolled at UET’s Bannu Campus. Additionally, a cash award of Rs. 200,000 will be presented to the gold medalist from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, UET Peshawar in recognition of academic excellence. Staff reporter
The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Sadiq Khattak, Vice Chancellor, UET Peshawar and Engr. Waseem Iqbal, Executive Engineer, SNGPL. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor emphasized the importance of robust partnerships between academia and industry. He extended his gratitude to SNGPL for their generous financial support. Stressing the need for practical outcomes from such agreements, he appointed Dr. Shehzad Khattak, Director Undergraduate Studies as the focal person to conduct quarterly review meetings with SNGPL to ensure the effective implementation of the MoUs and strengthen the existing agreements. The Vice Chancellor also expressed UET Peshawar’s readiness to provide services in research and development, offer student internships and collaborate in addressing technical challenges faced by SNGPL. He commended Dr. Nasru Minallah, Director ORCI for his efforts in coordinating the MoU signing.
Representing SNGPL, Engr. Waseem Iqbal, who is also an alumnus of UET Peshawar, expressed his appreciation for the university’s continued cooperation. He shared the details of the scholarships and award noting the importance of facilitating the disbursement process for students. He also showed commitment to further enhancing the relationship between SNGPL and his alma mater.
Prof. Dr. Rizwan M. Gul, Senior Dean, and Prof. Dr. Hamid Ullah, Chairman, Department of Mechanical Engineering acknowledged the valuable contributions of SNGPL particularly in establishing and supporting the Chair on Gas Laboratories at UET Peshawar. Dr. Hamid Ullah, who leads the Chair on Gas laboratory at the department, noted that it is fully operational and has consistently met expectations. “We share quarterly performance reports with SNGPL which reflect the lab’s achievements and progress,” he added.
The ceremony was also attended by Prof. Dr. Waqar Shah, Dean, Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Dr. Khizar Azam Khan, Registrar, Prof. Dr. Misbah Ullah, Advisor Finance, Mr. Shahid Nawaz, Treasurer and other senior officials from UET Peshawar.
