The employees’ welfare association of University of Engineering (UET) Peshawar has demanded the immediate payment of a 15 percent increase in the Disparity Reduction Allowance (DRA) announced in the provincial budget, urging the authorities to exempt the university from any undue delay or further committee proceedings.
In a statement, the association said that the provincial government had issued clear directives to all universities to abolish federal allowances and implement provincial allowances.
In compliance with these instructions, the Engineering University timely and fully abolished federal allowances and introduced provincial allowances for its employees, including a 15 percent Disparity Reduction Allowance.
The association pointed out that most other universities in the province have yet to implement the government’s orders, leaving their employees deprived of the DRA. However, despite the Engineering University already falling under the provincial allowance system and being fully entitled to the benefit, its employees have not received the additional increase announced in the provincial budget for 2024–25.
The association further expressed concern over the formation of a provincial government committee to address the issue, stating that linking the Engineering University’s case with the same committee is unjustified. According to the association, since the university has already implemented all government directives, its case is distinct from other institutions and should not be subjected to the committee’s process.
The association reiterated its demand for the immediate release of the increased allowance to Engineering University employees without further procedural delays.
