PESHAWAR
Unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on a police team near Shaheedabad graveyard in Peshawar city while they were in the process of transporting two suspects to the crime scene for identification, police reported.
Police said that the suspects were involved in a recent robbery case that had resulted in a tragic killing.
The police team was transporting Saeedullah alias Dinosaur and Shahzeb alias Gophi to the crime scene.
The two suspects had been arrested in connection with a violent robbery case, registered under Section 396 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which resulted in the tragic killing of a young man named Shahzeb on January 2, 2026.
Fortunately, the police party remained unharmed during the attack, but the suspects, who were in police custody, were fatally shot.
The assailants managed to flee the scene immediately after the shooting.
It is important to note that the deceased suspects, Saeedullah and Shahzeb, were involved in a brutal robbery on January 2, during which they had shot and killed the young Shahzeb, making their deaths particularly significant in this ongoing investigation.
Upon receiving news of the incident, DSP Peshtkhara Circle Omar Afridi swiftly arrived at the scene with a police team.
A thorough search operation was immediately launched in the area to gather critical evidence and apprehend the individuals responsible for the attack. Police checkpoints have been set up at various locations as part of a coordinated effort to capture the fleeing suspects.
Authorities have assured that the criminals responsible for the assault will be brought to justice soon, and efforts to track down the gunmen were underway.
