WAPDA has taken another significant step toward promoting education in Upper Kohistan under the Dasu Hydropower Project (DHPP). A foundation stone laying ceremony was held in Seo village for the construction of new buildings of Government High School and Government Primary School, with an estimated cost of Rs. 640 million. The project is being executed under the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) of DHPP, reflecting WAPDA’s commitment to improving educational standards and supporting socio-economic development in the region. The new school facilities will include modern classrooms, fully equipped science and computer laboratories, a multipurpose hall, staff rooms, and other essential infrastructure aimed at providing students with a better and more advanced learning environment.
The ceremony was attended by General Manager DHPP Amir Shafiq-ur-Rehman, Deputy Commissioner Upper Kohistan Azizullah Jan, senior officials of WAPDA and district administration, along with local elders, political and social representatives, teachers, and students.
WAPDA is actively implementing several community development projects under the Dasu Hydropower Project. These include the establishment of computer labs in schools, the provision of furniture and solar systems, student transport facilities, and scholarship programs. In addition, multiple projects related to road infrastructure, health services, and other development sectors have already been completed, while several others are in progress.
Speakers on the occasion emphasized the importance of education in regional development and appreciated the initiative for providing modern facilities in Upper Kohistan. They expressed confidence that these schools will help improve literacy rates and create new opportunities for the local youth.
The local community welcomed the project, terming it a landmark initiative for long-term development and educational progress in the area.
