The district administration has arrested 15 vehicle owners for charging fares above the government-notified rates during a surprise inspection of major transport terminals across the city. Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Capt. (R) Sanaullah Khan led the operation along with officials of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA).
Teams inspected the General Bus Stand, Lahore Adda, Kohat Bus Terminal, various terminals on GT Road, and the Charsadda Bus Stand, according to a statement issued here on Saturday.
During the inspection, officials questioned passengers about fares and directed all transporters to strictly comply with the official fare list. The administration said it took immediate action after receiving complaints of overcharging at multiple stands.
A total of 15 vehicle owners were arrested for violating the government fare schedule and overcharging commuters. Several other transporters were issued strict warnings for future compliance, the release added.
“Action against those collecting fares above the notified rates will continue without discrimination, and no one will be allowed to exploit passengers,” DC Peshawar Capt. (R) Sanaullah Khan said.
He also urged citizens to report any transporter charging more than the official fares to the district administration immediately so that legal action can be taken against those responsible.
