The second Haji Malik Umar Khattab Khalil Memorial KP Junior Tennis Championship got under way here at Synthetic Courts of the Peshawar Sports Complex.
As many as 110 players are taking part in the Championship in three different categories boys U-10, Ur-14 and U-18. Pakistan’s number one tennis star Aqeel Khan was accompanied by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association President, former Provincial Sports Minister Syed Aqil Shah, Secretary Zulfiqa Butt, Vice President of Provincial Tennis Association Umar Ayaz Khalil, Arshad Hussain, coaches Zakirullah, Nauman, Shehryar, Roman. Gul, Janan Khan and other personalities were present.
In the first round of the U18 round of the Championship organized under the auspices of the Provincial Tennis Association, Waqas Janus defeated Basit Khan of KP by6-2 and 6=3, Hamza Rahmat defeated Sudis Khan by 6-2 and 6-3, seed number four Junaid Khan was upset by Hazrat Ali with the 6-2 and 6-1. Jawad Khan defeated Dawood 6-2 and 6-3,Seed Number one Shahwar Khan defeated Mohammad Umar 6-2 and 6-1 to qualify for the next stage.
Addressing the ceremony on this occasion, Pakistan’s number one Aqeel Khan also announced the construction of three synthetic tennis courts by the newly elected President of Pakistan Tennis Federation, Aisam-ul-Haq, which is owned by the Directorate of Sports, Provincial Olympic Association and Provincial Tennis Association. KP Tennis Association Vice President Umar Ayaz Khalil while talking to the media said that these competitions are being organized with the support of Kashan Umar in which there will be competitions for boys U10, U14 and U18.
The prize money has been fixed at fifty thousand rupees. On the occasion of the closing ceremony, DG Sports Abdul Nasser Mohman will be the special guest along with Chairman Tennis Association Professor Dr. Muhammad Tahir, President Association Deputy Director IB, Muhammad Saleem Marwat, Senior Vice President Professor Dr. Farhat. Abbas will also be present.
