Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan on Wednesday said maintaining peace and religious harmony during Muharram-ul-Haram was the provincial government’s foremost priority, adding that comprehensive security arrangements had been put in place to ensure the peaceful observance of the month.
In a statement, the minister said a foolproof security plan had been finalised for Muharram, particularly for the ninth and 10th of Muharram, with all processions and religious gatherings to be monitored through an integrated security mechanism.
He said the security situation across the province was being monitored round the clock and the government was committed to ensuring the peaceful observance of Muharram with the active cooperation of the public.
Mr Jan appealed to religious scholars from all schools of thought to continue promoting inter-sect harmony, tolerance and mutual respect, saying collective efforts were essential to maintaining peace and unity. Highlighting the security arrangements, the minister said 43,317 police personnel had been deployed across the province for Muharram duties.
He added that the Central Control Room established in the Home Department was operating round the clock and was linked with command and control centres in all districts.
He said district-level control rooms had also been activated to ensure effective coordination, continuous monitoring and a prompt response to any security situation.
The minister said modern technology and advanced surveillance systems were being utilised to strengthen security arrangements and enable the police and other relevant departments to respond swiftly to any emergency.
Reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, Mr Jan urged the public to cooperate with the administration and law enforcement agencies to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram across the province.
