Awami National Party (ANP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa spokesperson Arsalan Khan Nazim has criticised Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s visit to Sindh, questioning who was running the province at a time when it was facing serious challenges.
In a statement, he said the people of KP were looking for their chief minister while he was visiting Sindh along with members of his cabinet. According to him, the chief minister would remain out of the province from Sept 3 to 7, potentially affecting the handling of important provincial affairs.
The ANP spokesperson said KP was facing serious challenges, including terrorism, law and order problems and issues relating to its constitutional and financial rights. He said police personnel were losing their lives in terrorist attacks and that police were being forced to protest, while the public was facing inflation, insecurity and what he described as administrative failures.
He alleged that the chief minister appeared to be more concerned about a political prisoner than addressing the province’s administrative and public issues.
Mr Nazim said it was an unusual situation in the country’s political history for an elected chief minister to pursue political mobilisation while also holding responsibility for running the provincial government. He said political party affairs and government responsibilities were generally kept separate because running a government required full-time attention.
He claimed that government affairs and public issues had become secondary in the province, with the provincial government’s activities revolving around a political issue.
The ANP spokesperson further alleged that the chief minister spent most weekdays in Islamabad and participated in meetings concerning provincial affairs online, and had now embarked on a visit to Sindh.
He urged the provincial government to focus on law and order, the province’s financial rights and public issues, and for the chief minister to remain in KP to oversee these matters.
