Additional Inspector General, North Region, National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP), Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan visited the Khairabad Sector Office of north region.
He was warmly welcomed by DIG North Zone Afzal Ahmed Kausar, DIG Motorway North Zone Salman Ali Khan, and other senior officers. Upon his arrival, a well-presented contingent offered a ceremonial guard of honour.
A commemorative tree was also planted to mark the occasion. During the visit, DIG North Zone presented a comprehensive briefing to the Additional Inspector General, outlining the region’s overall performance, key objectives, ongoing challenges, and strategic plans for the future. Later on, Additional Inspector General Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan addressed an open house meeting attended by officers, personnel, and staff of all ranks from across the region.
In his address, he emphasized that ensuring the safety and timely assistance of travellers must remain the department’s top priority. He highlighted that honesty and courteous conduct are the defining traits of the NHMP and urged all personnel to uphold these values in their daily duties.
The Additional Inspector General underscored the importance of maintaining public trust and enhancing operational efficiency, directing all officers to adopt a professional and respectful attitude when dealing with the public to reinforce the department’s positive image.
He made it clear that corruption and unethical behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances within the department. He also stressed the need for strict enforcement of the Axle Load Control Regime (ALCR) and full implementation of the zero-tolerance policy against overloaded vehicles to protect the integrity of road infrastructure.
The Additional Inspector General noted that the adoption of modern technology is being actively expanded to improve operational performance and enhance road safety measures. In light of floods and landslides he directed that alternate routes be identified promptly to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on affected highways, and that the public be immediately informed through all available channels about road closures and alternative routes. Sector Commanders were directed to remain fully engaged and present in affected areas to assess and monitor the situation effectively.
He also emphasized the importance of close coordination with district administrations and relevant departments to support rescue and relief operations efficiently. Reaffirming the department’s commitment to the welfare of its officers and personnel, the Additional Inspector General assured that all possible steps would be taken to support staff wellbeing. At the conclusion of the meeting, officers and staff shared their concerns, to which the Additional Inspector General responded by issuing immediate directives to the relevant officers for prompt resolution.
