First Women Dispute Resolution Council Formed at Swat

Swat Police under the leadership of District Police Officer Shafiullah Khan Gandapur set up first ever Women Dispute Resolution Councils (DRCs) in the district.
Transgender, women and minorities also got representation for the first time in the newly established women DRC.
DRC is a Jirga system of Pakhtun traditions which has been used to resolve the disputes of locals people through dialogue since long.
Addressing an inauguration ceremony DPO Swat Shafiullah Khan Gandapur has said that the Dispute Resolution Councils (DRCs) have been doing an excellent job in all the districts of KP since they were set up. Apart from setting up DRC for men, now we set up the first women DRC in Swat, the induction of women members will make it easier to solve the problems of women and transgender. Their cases will be dealt in a peaceful environment, DPO said.
Farzana Ahad Advocate, Soraya Ali Advocate, Minhaz Yousafzai, Farzana, Humira Arshad Advocate, Iram Shahzadi, Shagufta and others are included in this Jirga for resolutions of disputes with other DRC members in different police stations.
“We have for the first time inducted minority representation to settle various disputes between their members as well as with those of other religions,” DPO Swat Shafiullah Khan Gandapur said.
More women are joining these bodies to provide a platform for females who face disputes with family or with other members of society, he added.
The DRC members were felicitated and given official permits and District Police Officer Shafiullah Gandapur administered the oath from the office bearers of the newly inducted DRC women members. Later, DPO Swat awarded appreciation certificates to New DRC women members at his office.
