IGP KP vows to intensify operations against militants

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Zulfiqar Hameed on Thursday visited Dera Ismail Khan to express condolences with the families of police personnel and a youth martyred and those injured in the recent terrorist attack in Wanda Badh Panyala area of the district, and vowed to intensify operations against militants in the region.
The IGP first reached Police Lines, where he laid a wreath at the Police Martyrs Memorial and offered prayers for the departed souls. He later met the bereaved families and expressed deep sorrow over their loss.
“The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has always stood firm for the peace of the country and rendered immense sacrifices in the fight against terrorism,” he said, adding that the martyrs were the pride of the force and their sacrifices would never be forgotten. He assured the families that they would not be left alone.
Mr Hameed said steps were under way to introduce a safe city project and modern technology in Dera to counter anti-social elements. He expressed hope that peace and order would soon be fully restored in the area.
The IGP also visited the DHQ Civil Hospital where he inquired after the injured police personnel, presented them with bouquets and received a briefing from medical staff on their treatment. He directed authorities to ensure the best possible care for the wounded and said terrorist acts could not demoralise the force.
“Our morale is high and we are proud of our personnel who are bravely performing their duties as a frontline wall against terrorists,” he said.
Later, chairing a meeting at the Range Police Office Dera to review the law and order situation, the IGP said terrorists were open enemies of the state and would be dealt with firmly. Commissioner Dera Division Daud Khan, Additional IG CTD Jawad Qamar, Station Commander Brigadier Muhammad Abu Bakr, RPO Syed Ashfaq Anwar, DPO Sahibzada Sajjad Ahmed and SP CTD Paharpur attended the meeting.
The RPO briefed participants on the overall security situation in the region, recent incidents of terrorism and ongoing operations.
Mr Hameed directed officials to further intensify patrols, intelligence-sharing, search and targeted operations. He said there would be no room for terrorism in the Dera region and that all those involved in acts of violence would be brought to justice.
Speaking to media representatives, the IGP paid tribute to the martyred personnel and said their sacrifices would not go in vain. He added that terrorists had also suffered casualties in the police response.
He said the police force was fully prepared to meet all challenges and would continue operations with greater speed and urgency until lasting peace was established in the province. He also noted that efforts were under way to equip the force with modern weapons and technology, construct police stations and provide bulletproof vehicles to minimise losses.
