The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has alerted district administrations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to expected rain, thunderstorms and strong winds from Aug 29 to Sept 5.
According to a PDMA advisory, rain and thunderstorms are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur and Kohistan during the period.
Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Khyber and Mohmand districts may also receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms.
The authority said rain was expected in Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and the tribal districts of Waziristan from Sept 1 to 4.
It warned of a risk of landslides in vulnerable areas of the upper districts due to heavy rainfall. Low-lying areas of Mardan and Swabi could face urban flooding from Aug 31 to Sept 5.
Strong winds and lightning could damage vulnerable structures, electricity poles, billboards and crops, the advisory said.
The PDMA directed all district administrations and relevant departments to take precautionary measures and remain on alert to deal with any emergency.
Tourists and travellers have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel in view of the expected weather conditions. Tourists have also been asked to avoid trekking, hiking and camping during heavy rainfall.
The authority urged residents to stay away from streams and rainwater channels and avoid crossing flooded roads.
People have also been advised to remain in safe places during thunderstorms and strong winds. The PDMA and relevant departments are monitoring the situation round the clock, the advisory said.
