The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has deferred the ongoing delimitation process for local government constituencies in seven districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following amendments to the provincial Local Government Act. According to the Election Commission on Monday, the delimitation process has been suspended in Khyber, Kurram, Mansehra, Malakand, Shangla, Upper Chitral and Bajaur districts. The ECP has also issued a formal notification suspending, until further orders, its earlier notification issued on July 22, 2026, regarding the delimitation process. The notification states that the ongoing delimitation process in all seven districts will remain suspended until further directives, with the decision taking immediate effect.
The Election Commission has summoned the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Secretary Local Government on August 20 for a briefing on the matter and to discuss the necessary future course of action.
The officials have been directed to brief the ECP on the recent amendments to the Local Government Act and their impact on the delimitation process.
Following the latest decision, the future course of local government delimitation in the seven districts will remain subject to further orders from the Election Commission.
