Re-voting in 39 polling stations of district Khyber, comprising 34 polling stations in sub-division Landi Kotal and five in sub-division Bara was carried out peacefully here on Sunday.
Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)had finalized all arrangements and on the last day transported election crews in addition with election commodities to the concerned polling stations.
It is to be mentioned that on last 19th December,2021 during Local Bodies election due to scuffle, disturbance and unfavorable conditions,re-polling was ordered on 34 polling stations in Landi Kotal and 05 in Bara.
As per the ECP rules, the election started at 08:00 am and continued without any break till 05:00 pm.
According to Returning Officers 30 polling stations (male and female) had been established for the residents of Bazaar Zakha Khel to facilitate the voters to cast their votes at the nearest station whereas in the light of directions of the ECP, 04 female polling stations had been set up in government girls’ high secondary school, Landi Kotal to carry out free and fair re-polling.
Re-voting in 05 polling stations was also conducted in a peaceful environment.
Foolproof security arrangements had been initiated inside and outside of the polling stations and beside police personnel, contingents of Frontier Corp (FC) were also deployed to tackle any untoward situation.
Deputy Commissioner, Khyber Mansoor Arshad and District Police Officer Dr Muhammad Imran visited various polling stations and expressed their satisfaction over the smoothly process of voting.
Extra-enthusiasm was witnessed among the voters, who waited in long queues to cast their votes and following expiring of official time for voting, counting of the votes was begun on the spot in the polling stations.
It is to be stated here that 20 contestants compete for Landi Kotal mayor ship (tehsil chairman) in the LG election.
