Speakers urge strategy to control plastic pollution

Vice-Chancellor University of Agriculture Peshawar Prof Dr Jahan Bakht on Monday termed plastic pollution as a major threat to ecosystem, wildlife and human health.
He said that an effective strategy must be ensured to cater to the spread of pollution caused by plastic use in the society.
Mr Bakht expressed these views while addressing a seminar titled “Prevention of Plastic Pollution” on the occasion of World Environment Day.
The seminar was organized by the Department of Soil and Environmental Sciences, University of Agriculture, Peshawar.
Speakers of the event said that the environment is facing numerous threats; a common strategy is needed to protect the environment from further degradation.
They said that steps should be taken on all platforms to raise awareness about the importance of a safe and sound environment for developing society.
In order to eliminate the pollution spread by plastic, everyone should reiterate their commitment to give up the use of plastic bags etc.
VC said that the use of plastic has created disastrous consequences for the ecosystem, wildlife and human health.
Chairman Department of Soil and Environmental Sciences Professor Dr Muhammad Sharif welcomed the participants and gave a detailed briefing regarding the day.
A large number of scientists, faculty members and students from various universities and other organizations participated in the seminar.
Later, Dr Jahan Bakht distributed shields among the participants and led an awareness walk regarding prevention of plastic pollution.
