Two militants killed, one cop martyred as police foil terrorist attack on Mianwali post


Two militants were killed while one was seriously wounded after the police foiled a terror attack on its patrolling post at Kundal in Mianwali on late Saturday night. According to a Punjab Police spokesman, a group of more than 10 terrorists attacked Eisa Khel Kundal patrolling post in early hours.
An exchange of fire took place between the suspects and Punjab police officials who foiled an attempt of the suspects to enter the patrolling post’s building. The firing left two suspects dead and PHP head constable Haroon Khan martyred. Khan suffered bullet wound in his eye.
The spokesman further said the gun battle ensued for about four hours and PHP officials repulsed the attack. Punjab police chief Dr Usman Anwar said the deceased suspects were involved in terrorists activities across the country. He said a hunt had been launched to trace the runaway suspects.
He said Punjab police along other security forces were fighting the terrorists, adding CTD has so far conducted 130 intelligence-based operations. The Punjab police were put on high alert to protect life and property of the masses, the Punjab IG said. The IG left for Kundal in morning. He will attend the funeral of the martyred cop.
According to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, who left for Kundal on Sunday to review the post-attack situation, said around 10 to 12 militants attacked the post, which led to an exchange of fire between the two sides which lasted for four hours. “At last two militants were killed when a policeman fired at them from a rooftop,” he elaborated.
Giving further details, the IGP said the militants stormed the post from two sides. “However, to their surprise, policemen were fully alert to thwart the attack,” he said, adding there were reports that two terrorists were seriously injured.
“Search operation is continuing in the area,” he said, adding, “The slain militants were involved in terror attacks across the country.” Dr. Usman, during his visit to the area, will meet with the police personnel manning the post. He will also attend the funeral prayer of the deceased constable.
He praised the Force for foiling the attack, and said he saluted constable Haroon for laying down his life while performing his duty. It is pertinent to mention here that terror attacks have been on the rise, especially for the last one month.
Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the patrolling police for foiling the terrorist attack on the Isa Khel Kundal check post in Mianwali. He said that police thwarted the terrorist attack on the patrolling post by taking timely action. He congratulated the police officers who foiled the attack.
CM Naqvi also paid tribute to the martyred police officer Haroon Khan who sacrificed his life during the militant attack. He expressed his heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the family of the martyred cop.
