The Energy and Power Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa held its sixth online e-khuli kachehri on Thursday to hear public complaints regarding energy projects and direct the relevant authorities to address them.
The session was chaired by Energy and Power Secretary Nisar Ahmad and attended by senior officials and heads of attached organisations, including the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (PEDO), KP Oil and Gas Company, Electric Inspectorate and KP Transmission and Grid System Company, besides project directors.
According to the department, 55 complainants from different districts contacted the authorities through telephone calls and the department’s official Facebook page and raised issues concerning energy projects and related departments.
The secretary directed the relevant officials to take immediate steps to resolve the complaints and submit implementation reports at the earliest.
Mr Ahmad expressed concern over complaints regarding the slow pace and alleged substandard construction of mini- and micro-hydel stations in some areas. He directed the concerned project director to ensure quality work and said negligence in resolving public complaints would not be tolerated. He also directed officials to give preference to local people in recruitment for various ongoing PEDO projects.
The secretary said resolving public complaints was a priority of the department and that the e-kachehri was aimed at improving transparency and accountability in government affairs.
He directed departmental officers to take the complaints raised during the session seriously and ensure timely action, saying the public was monitoring government measures relating to merit and transparency.
