Kohat
The Commissioner Kohat Division, Syed Motasim Billah Shah, who also serves as the Peshawar High Court’s focal person for Indus Highway affairs, conducted a detailed inspection of the Indus Highway across the districts of Kohat, Karak and Lakki Marwat, accompanied by the district administration and police officials.
The inspection focused on assessing ongoing construction work, traffic flow and compliance with traffic regulations, particularly vehicle movement in the correct lanes and adherence to prescribed load limits, amid rising concerns over road accidents. During the visit, the commissioner ordered immediate legal action against several passenger and cargo vehicles involved in overloading, wrong-way driving and other traffic violations. Enforcement agencies acted on the directives on the spot.
Shah expressed strong anger over the illegal parking along sections of the Indus Highway in Kohat and Karak districts, instructing the authorities to take strict and indiscriminate action against violators. He also directed action against the individuals dumping waste along the highway, ordering district administrations to ensure shopkeepers and hotel owners cooperate fully with government staff in maintaining cleanliness.
The commissioner directed the local administration of the National Highway Authority to expedite ongoing construction work, particularly the installation of the central median and to install additional warning and information signboards to improve traffic management and road safety.
He further directed the administrations of all three districts to formally warn transporters, traders and factory owners that overloading, overspeeding and wrong-way driving would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
“These measures are aimed at protecting the precious human lives and transforming the Indus Highway into a safer and more organized roadway,” the commissioner said.
