Health deptt takes special measures after diarrhea outbreak in Shahu village in Kalam
PESHAWAR
District Health Officer Swat Dr Muhammad Saleem Khan has said that special measures have been taken at Kalam Hospital and Shahu dispensary for people suffering from vomiting and diarrhea in Shahu village of Kalam Valley.
“Following the cases of diarrhea in Kalam Valley, emergency measures were taken and additional staff was deployed and additional medicines were delivered to Shahu dispensary and Kalam Hospital,” he added.
Dr Muhammad Saleem Khan said that so far, more than 600 affected people have been examined and treated, that’s why the number of people with vomiting and diarrhea has dropped by 50 percent.
He said that samples of water and patients have been sent for lab tests to find out the causes.
He expressed these views during his visit to a medical camp set up at Shahu Village dispensary.
He held a detailed meeting with staff and patients and inspected availability of medicines and other facilities.
DHO urged people and other patients in the medical camp to drink boiled water in view of the monsoon rains and abstain from food in the markets, and ensure cleanliness, especially hand hygiene.
Dr Mohammad Saleem Khan said that the monsoon rains add unhealthy water to clean water in reservoirs, especially water tanks and springs, which leads to stomach ailments that cause diarrhea and vomiting.
Talking about the situation, he said that since the cases were first reported, 12 patients have been referred to Saidu Hospital where they were treated, while one woman died.
The situation was under control and staff will remain deployed at Kalam Hospital and Shahu dispensary till the end of the cases and the situation would be closely monitored.
