Speakers asked the concerned authorities in a gathering held in Bacha Khan Square,Landi Kotal Bazaar on Monday to bestow rights to local laborers, guaranteed to them globally.
May 01, (Labor Day) commemorates globally to applaud historical struggles and gains made by the workers and their unions.
Under the banner of Nujawanane Qabail association, the moot was organized in connection with “World Labor Day” that was attended by the laborers unions, representatives of various political parties, tribal elders, traders, members of civil society and large numbers of dwellers of the area.
Addressing on the occasion speakers including chief of the Nujawanane Qabail Saeed Shinwari, City Mayor Haji Shah Khalid, Israr Shinwari, tehsil elite of Jamiat Ulemae Islam, Fazal Rehman(JUI-F),tribal elder Najeeb Khawrichan said State was responsible to provide respectful job opportunities to the its citizens but ironically they faced adverse situation of it locally.
They added that anti-laborers policies imposed at Torkham border compelled them on starvation.
The officials deliberately decreased work opportunities at the Pak-Afghan sharing border, and the local laborers had no other option but to seek jobs in downtowns, they remarked.
They blamed that the border security officials have implemented allegedly unnecessary restrictions at the Torkham border has deprived thousands of local laborers to earn three times meals for their families.
They asked to stop torturing and inhuman behavior towards the local manual workers and provided all facilities being enjoyed by the laborers in other parts of the country.
Earlier, besides Khyber holiday was observed across the country and all public offices, educational institutions and other government installations remained closed.
It is worth mentioning here that the first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on September 5, 1882 in New York City.
