UoP constitutes committee to probe killing of Supervisor

A supervisor of the University of Peshawar (UoP), Saqlain Bangash, was killed by an accidental fire from a security guard’s pistol.
According to DSP Campus Fazal Rabi Khan, university supervisor Saqlain Bangish was checking the security arrangements when the private security guard on international hostel duty, Masood, fired a pistol while opening the gate, as a result of which the supervisor was injured. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The police seized the pistol from the spot but the security guard managed to escape. Police have started searching for the security guard.
It is pertinent to mention here that a week ago, a security guard of the Islamia College University (ICU) shot dead a professor of the university after heated arguments over a minor issue.
The slain professor Bashir Ahmed was a resident of Tordher in Mardan district and was serving in the English department of the university as a lecturer, according to an official of Campus police station.
Police registered FIR against the security guard, Sher Mohammad, a resident of Sarband area of Peshawar.
Both the teacher and security guard had also exchanged hot words a month ago over an unknown issue.
The accused was arrested by police from Karak.
The UoP and ICU students are complaining poor security situation inside their institutions as two cases of murder in a week scared them.
Students also raises questions over the performance of the campus police and demanded feasible and safe environment for study inside the two historic institutions.
Meanwhile, the University of Peshawar (UoP) grieved and condemned the tragic killing of Saqlain Bangash, Security Supervisor and constituted a committee to probe the matter transparently and logically.
Saqlain Bangash was an ex-employee of the University of Peshawar who after his retirement a couple of years back, rendered services to various private security companies, said a press release issued by the media office of the University on Sunday.
Currently, he was working as a Security Supervisor with the Sigma Security Company and was deputed at the University of Peshawar.
The nature of the exact incident is yet to be known, however, as per the initial report Saqlain Bangash was on a security round of the hostels, at noon when he received a bullet injury from a pistol shot by the Sigma Security Company guard deputed at one of the hostels.
He was immediately rushed to the Khyber Teaching Hospital where he later succumbed to his injury.
Although the Police Department has initiated a criminal investigation into the matter, the University has also constituted a fact-finding committee to probe the matter transparently and logically.
The University values the services rendered by Saqlain Bangash and the University’s faculty, officers, students, and staff are much grieved by his sad and unfortunate demise and condole with the bereaved family members.
The University is fully committed to probing the matter transparently till the end and will leave no stone unturned in ensuring justice in the matter.
